How should I calculate power in AC circuit?

I have v= Vm sin wt and i = Im cos wt. also what will be the difference if its sin (wt+θ) or cos (wt+θ)? Actually I could not figure out that if i should multiply V and I to get power as per general formula or what? provided that i don't have value of impedance only have V and I.
